Job Summary: Performs Electric Transmission planning analysis and
studies, while working closely with other Engineering groups,
System Operations, Key Accounts, and Field Operations staff, plus
outside entities such as neighboring utilities, consultants,
Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), North American
Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and ReliabilityFirst.
Assist with performing studies to be used in the near- and
long-term planning of the transmission system (69 kV and above) and
maintain modeling data such as facility ratings and impedances.
Essential Functions:
- Performs Distribution System Planning functions to include the
following: CYME system model creation/management used to evaluate
existing and future conditions of the 12.47kV distribution
system.
- System analysis for load additions, fault current requests,
phase balancing, and volt/VAR support will use the CYME software
package for base/study case modeling.
- Assists with DER interconnections including all supporting
documentation and assistance in IURC reporting.
- Assist with Distribution Planning methodology creation and
future updates/maintenance (alarm limits, DA, etc.).
- Assist with Long Range planning activities including load
forecasting, capacity planning, and hosting capacity for EVs and
DER. Future support and research around EVs, battery storage, and
FERC 2222, will also apply to this role.
- Required to participate in an after-hours emergency response
support and possible on-call rotation for storm support.
- Develop and maintain computer simulation Steady State and
Dynamics models with both existing and planned facilities.
- Work with multiple departments, customers, outside consulting
firms, and other utilities to gather information in order to update
models and modeling data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform Steady State, Transient Stability, Short Circuit,
Transfer, and other analysis as needed for current season through
the Planning Horizon (10+ years).
- Develop and maintain Facility Ratings for all transmission
facilities, and Impedances for all transmission lines and
transformers.
- Perform annual standards reviews and work with the NERC
Compliance team to ensure continued compliance with applicable NERC
Reliability Standards.
- Coordinate modeling data and study results with neighboring
utilities.
- Provide recommendations, based on analysis results, on system
switching procedures to allow outages on the transmission system
for project and maintenance field work.
- Perform field inspections as needed for validation of facility
ratings.
- Review and analyze customer submitted site plans, structural
drawings, electric one-lines, schematics, and load analysis.
- Use electrical models (CYME) to analyze circuit loading,
identify operating issues, make reliability and operational
recommendations for the distribution system.
- Gather information and compiles data from multiple sources
(SAP, G.I.S., Distribution Accounts, Service Centers, etc.) to
construct electrical model and make recommendations.
- Prepare Distribution Development Plan documents and associated
reports (construction lists, loading reports, detail
drawings/sketches, etc.)
- Perform studies to analyze and respond to New Load Requests,
special studies, and other inquiries.
- Provide expertise to improve and enhance distribution planning
techniques, standards, and procedures.
- Perform an engineering analysis of underground duct banks to
evaluate cable ampacity.
- Support the construction, operations, and maintenance of the
distribution system through communication with field personnel and
customers.
- Gather and analyze data, perform engineering studies, prepare
written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution
systems.
- Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors, and
internal departments.
- Thermal and voltage analysis for the distribution system and
proposing mitigations for issues.
- Perform Short Circuit analysis for Fault current requests
(distribution system only).
- Support Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) initiatives
- DER interconnections (tracking, data management, processing
applications)
- Distribution Automation (DA) - planning phase activities and
deliverables
- Maintain Distribution Device Asset management (reclosers,
capacitors, regulators, etc.)
- Maintain PI access needed for circuit loading reviews.
- Support Transmission Planning Rolling Load Reduction
- Yearly reporting for transformer/circuit summer loading
- Develop, update, and maintain Planning standards and
methodology documents.
- Participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan
(EOP). Education Description:
- Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university in Engineering.
- Path to PE license in Indiana is preferred. Experience: 2 years
